About Shop Fees & Consumables

TinkerMill is one of the largest makerspaces while also being one of the most affordable. We accomplish this by our unique fee structure. Your membership dues were paid when you joined online, and that is a monthly subscription – set it and forget it. This membership really only covers our entrance to the building and Slack access.

Beyond membership, you will pay for certification classes, shop fees, and any consumables you use as well. Certification classes are taken for gaining independent use of the shop/machine and are one time-costs. As you use the shops and equipment/machinery on your own, you will be responsible for shops fees and any consumables you use.

Shop fees cover the cost of maintaining the shop and any basic supplies that need to be replenished that you use included in that fee. Consumables are optional – these are materials on hand such as clay in our pottery studio or foil/solder in our stained glass shop.

The prices for each shop varies. Some shops even have regularly-used consumables folded into the price of your shop fees. For example, the blacksmithing shop fees are $8/hour which includes your forge gas, and FDM 3D printing fees are based on the weight of the filament you use. Please see below for a complete list, or they can be found on the blue boxes in each specific shop.

Please pay your shops fees in a timely manner when you use a shop using the one of methods listed above. If there is a place to leave a payment note, please be as specific as possible.

The money that you spend in the shop, goes directly to that shop. It’s unlikely that as a member you need access to EVERYTHING that is here. With this structure you are putting your money where you are spending your time. These funds will help sustain those shop areas. Thank you for supporting our shops!
