Blacksmithing: Ages 12-17 must have a certified legal guardian present with them in the shop at all times, and minors 16-17 need to have certified legal guardian on site at TinkerMill. If the minor is taking a certification class, the legal guardian needs to be taking the class as well.

Electronics/Robotics: All minors under the age of 18 must have legal guardian with them at all times unless otherwise permitted by the Shop Captain.

• Soldering: 10+ with legal guardian supervision, 16+ with legal guardian in the building

• Power Supplies: 18+ only

• All electrical measuring equipment: Any age with legal guardian supervision, 16+ with guardian in the building.

Flameworking: Minimum age 16+ for shop use. Minors under the age of 18 must have a certified legal guardian with them at all times. If the minor is taking a certification class, the legal guardian needs to be taking the class as well. Refer to shop captain discretion.

Machine Shop: Minimum age 18.  

Metalcraft, Jewelry & Lapidary: Minimum age in Metalcraft is 13, and 18+ only in Lapidary. All minors under the age of 18 must have a certified legal guardian with them at all times. If the minor is taking a certification class, the legal guardian needs to be taking the class as well.

*special classes for under 13 in Metalcraft can be arranged through Shop Captain, Crystal Hinds. 

Pottery: No minimum age with a certified member (please be respectful of others and clean up all messes). Certified minors 14+ may work independently with a parent member in the building, otherwise minors under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian with them at all times. Shop Captains may be willing to make some exceptions – please contact. 

Rapid Prototyping:  All minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them at all times. Refer to Shop Captain’s discretion. 

• Laser cutter: 12 y/o with guardian supervision, 16+ with guardian in building. 

• 3D FDM printers: any age with guardian supervision, 16+ with guardian in building.

• Resin 3D printers: 16+ with guardian supervision.

• Vacuum former: No minor use, 18+ only.

Stained Glass: Minimum age 14. All minors under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian with them at all times. No certifications required with prior experience.

Textiles: All minors under the age of 12 must have a legal guardian with them at all times. Youth aged 12 and older may use the Textiles Shop unsupervised with a legal guardian member on TinkerMill property with the following exceptions:

• You must be 14 or older to use the home sewing machines, sergers, embroidery machines, and rotary cutters.

• You must be 18 or older to use the industrial sewing machines, heat press, pneumatic stapler, hot knife, and electric carving knives.

Welding: Minimum age 14. All minors under the age of 18 must have a certified legal guardian with them at all times. If the minor is taking a certification class, the legal guardian needs to be taking the class as well.  Refer to Shop Captain’s discretion otherwise.

Woodshop: Minimum age 15. All minors must have a certified legal guardian with them at all times. If the minor is taking a certification class, the legal guardian needs to be taking the class as well. General policy does not allow minors to use the large floor tools but exceptions may apply. Refer to Shop Captain’s discretion otherwise.
